Silver Championships: What a Sunday
The highest score of the Silver Championships weekend at Westar Farms belonged to a junior member who spent a day at an OADG clinic this summer.
Morgan Baldwin rode in our Polish Your Dressage Youth Clinic in June. At the Silver Championships she and Bring It On posted 72.931% in Training Junior Test 2, won Test 3 as well, took the Ontario Dressage Junior High Point ribbon and a National Dressage Pony Cup championship, and anchored the winning side in the Eastern Division Team Challenge. Four things, one weekend, one heck of a horse and rider combo. Nationals comes next, and we will all be cheering them on!
The Ontario Dressage Silver Championships, Eastern Division, were held on Sunday 13 September at Westar Farms' Summerset Dressage Show, the day after OADG's first ESD Series Championship.
OADG has a long history with the Silver Championships. They have been an anchor of our Silver competition series for many years, and it is a privilege to work directly with Ontario Dressage to keep supporting them. Local riders get a chance to ride for the Eastern Division and for the overall Provincial Championship in their division.
Westar Farms has been an excellent host for several seasons now, and they did not disappoint. Top notch facilities, and new this year, a competitor barbecue on Saturday night.
Eleven riders contested eight divisions, from Introductory through Third Level, each riding two tests. Three Ontario Dressage High Point ribbons went to the best Junior, Adult Amateur and Open rides of the day. Six National Dressage Pony Cup championships were decided inside those same classes, for ponies and small horses. And three teams of three rode against each other in the Eastern Division Team Challenge, where just over eleven points separated first place from second.
OADG's part in the weekend was to run our own ESD Series Championship the day before, to cosponsor that barbecue with Ontario Dressage, and to do the sponsorship work. Every prize handed out in the Silver divisions came from a business that OADG approached. The full list is at the bottom of this post and it is worth reading.

When you next need a saddle pad, a farrier, insurance, a stock tie or a saddle fit, start with this list. Sponsorship is not charity and it is not advertising. It is a business betting that the people in this sport will remember who showed up for them. Let us prove them right.
THANK YOU
To Ontario Dressage, for bringing the Eastern Division championships to Ottawa and for cosponsoring the competitor barbecue. To Bridget and Jeff McKessock and the team at Westar Farms, who hosted two championships across one weekend and made it look ordinary. And to the officials, who judged a long card.
And to Susan Otto, our Sponsorship Director, who made every one of the calls and emails that filled the prize table above. That work is invisible when it goes well and it is the reason there was anything to hand out.
Photographs by David Pettersson, an OADG volunteer, who shot the whole weekend. Riders and their families are welcome to use any photograph they appear in, at no charge and with no permission needed. For full resolution files, email ottawaAreaDressageGroup@gmail.com.
OADG's own ESD Series Championship ran the day before at the same show, and those results are here: https://www.ottawadressage.ca/post/esd-championships-what-a-day
